OVERVIEW OF SYSTEM PLANNING AND ENGINEERING
Planning phase with
process- and system-specific
design parameters
Complex systems and/or new separation tasks often require intensive investigations during the planning phase, as the process and system-specific design parameters for the process and system technology may not be known to the required extent and/or can only be inadequately derived from existing applications and operating experience. To minimize the process risk during the implementation and operation of the process and system technology, existing or known deficits should be eliminated through laboratory and pilot plant scale tests. The results obtained from these investigations are used in system planning and in the preparation of production documents for the construction of the process and system technology. The test technology can be used in the course of step-by-step testing of process and system technology and to determine the causes of process faults and to design and test remedial measures.
The work in the system planning can be carried out in a separate engineering package, e.g. in accordance with DWA-A 712. In this context, on-site support is usually provided by a team of engineers and chemists. Flow charts, R+I diagrams and profitability calculations of various process technologies are carried out. The systems or variants may be developed in the 3D CAD system. As a rule, this work can clarify process and system engineering issues and also the integration of existing system technology, e.g. chemical-physical wastewater treatment or ion exchanger technology or the planning of an industrial reverse osmosis plant with electrodeionization. In this context, design parameters of an ion exchanger system or selective exchanger system such as the optimum pH value and physical flow parameters such as BV/h (bed volume per hour), m/h (meters per hour) may also be verified or redesigned and converted into values easily readable for the operator such as m³/h.
The results of the water and wastewater engineering are decoupled from any subsequent system engineering implementation. The client shall receive the rights to use the results himself and may also use them for his own purposes through third parties.
